French-Alpine is a breed of goat that originated in the Alps. They were brought from France to the United States. They can come in many different colors and usually have short fur. Alpines are a dairy breed and can produce an average of over 1 gallon of milk per day. The are very friendly and sometimes act like a dog. Pictured above is Allie, Dolly, and Casper.

#2 Boer

Boer goats originated in South Africa in the early 1900s. They can have many different fur patterns like traditional, dapple, paint and solids. They can come in many different colors but red is the most common. They are meat goats. Many are very friendly and will eat out of your hand. Saanen goats originated in Switzerland, in the Saanen Valley. They are all white or a very light cream color. They are a dairy goat that can produce a lot of milk with a low amount of fat. They are sensitive to a lot of sun and prefer cooler conditions.

This breed was developed in Great Britain. It is well known for its large ears and "Roman" nose. They can live in very hot climates and have longer breeding seasons than other dairy goats. Nubians are considered dairy or dual purpose goats. They can be used for meat and hide, also. They come many different colors and patterns. Also they can be very loyal pets.

Pygmy is a breed of miniature goats. They originated in the Cameroon Valley of West Africa. They were brought to the United States from Europe in the 1950s. Despite their size they are quite hardy and can adapt to any climate. They are a multipurpose animal. They have positive disposition that is why they make great pets and show animals.

They are a miniature dairy goat originating from West Africa. They are known for their even tempers and playful attitudes. They are great family pets and some have even been used as service animals. Most Nigerian Dwarfs have brown eyes, but blue eyes are becoming more popular.

They are a dairy breed developed in Switzerland. They are related to the Alpine and used to be called Swiss Alpines. Their population in the United States is very small. They are a friendly goat with a gentle disposition which makes them useful as a pack animal.
