Griptape Review

Today I’ll be reviewing different brands of griptape for skateboards. Griptape is an essential part of a skateboard because it allows you to do different tricks while keeping your feet attached to your skateboard when you need to be. I chose to review this product because when people buy their first skateboard they often ask others which is the best so I’ve decided to give my personal review on different brands of griptape.

I chose five different brands of griptape, reviewing them based on grip, durability, popularity, and price. The five brands I reviewed were Mob, Jessup, Shake Junt, Grizzly, and Black Magic. The five brands I chose are all available through www.skatewharehouse.com and I will be using their prices. When selecting the five I chose their most basic designs to focus on the quality rather than appearance for this review.

I chose Mob as the top product due to it having the most grip, durability, popularity, and an appealing price compared to its close competitors. Mob grip is the coarsest compared to the others which allows for the most grip and control. Durability and popularity were all very similar among the top three with only grip and price setting them apart. Mob was priced great between the other brands at only $4.99. I believe this is the best griptape due to how much grip it provides. If there is too much grip you can always sand it down to your preference, which cannot be said for other brands.

I chose Jessup as the second-best product because it has less grip than Mob but still has great durability, price, and is very popular among the skate community. Jessup is rated below Mob because it provided less grip and unlike mob where you can sand it down to your preference it is impossible to add more grip. The durability is the same as the other top products. The most appealing part of this product is the price. Of the three top products, this griptape is the least expensive, priced at only $3.99.

I chose Shake Junt for the third best griptape. The grip, durability, and popularity are all very similar between Shake Junt and Jessup . The most noticeable difference is the cost. This griptape sells for $5.99 which is more expense than the other top two. Although this is more expensive, many people will still choose Shake Junt to support their favorite team or skateboarder which is why Shake Junt placed third.

Although I chose Mob as the top product based mostly on which one will provide the most grip, you may prefer less grip. It all comes down to personal preference. Try different levels of grip until you find what you like best.

#4 Grizzly

Grizzly griptape has less grip than Mob, but similar to the grip on Jessup or Shake Junt. This griptape will not wear down very much. Grizzly griptape is very popular for younger and beginner skaters. Priced at $6.99 this is the most expensive out of the other brands.

#5 Black Magic

Black magic is very similar to Mob. This griptape has the high level of grip that you get from Mob although it is slightly less durable. Black Magic is not as popular as Mob but is a nice alternative. This griptape is priced at only $4.99
