Protein Powder Review

Whey protein powder is a supplement used to increase an individual’s total daily protein intake. This is done in many cases to increase or preserve one’s muscle mass. In this review the aspects that are to be considered are the three products’ nutritional information, cost per serving, and taste and mix ability. The three protein powders to be reviewed are Gold Standard Whey by Optimum Nutrition, Syntha-6 by BSN, and Cor-Performance Whey by Cellucor.

When it comes to the nutritional information for these products, the Gold Standard Whey has the most detailed nutritional information, highest protein content, and has the Informed Choice seal. This seal means that it has tested negative for certain banned substances tested by Informed Choice and is able to be used by athletes in certain sports organizations. The Syntha-6 product has the highest calorie content of those considered and consequently the lowest protein by volume. This product also has a fairly extensive ingredients list which may be indicative of the use of more fillers. The Cor-Performance Whey has the second highest protein content and a minimal amount of ingredients. This product label is also the least detailed on the list, however.

When it comes to cost per serving, the cost that was listed on the Amazon Marketplace was used for the five-pound container for continuity as these prices can vary depending on the vender. The product with the lowest cost per serving was the Gold Standard Whey with a cost of about $0.81 per serving. The product with the next lowest cost is the Cor-Performance Whey with a cost per serving of about $0.86 per serving. Coming in with the highest cost per serving is the Syntha-6 protein at about $0.93 per serving.

As far as taste and mix ability, the protein with the best combination of taste and mix ability is that of the Gold Standard Whey. This powder stood up to label claim of being able to be mixed with a spoon rather than most requiring some sort of shaker cup. The powder with the greatest taste is the Syntha-6 protein. This is the easiest one to drink, increasing its position on my list. This is of great importance because as a consumer one would not only like to put the product that they spent their money on to use, but also enjoy their experience while doing so. Lastly, the Cor-Performance Whey performed very poorly in this test. The mix ability was very subpar meaning when drinking this product, I often found myself tasting chunks of protein that had not dissolved fully. This product also tasted the worst out of those considered in this review.

And now to announce my highest rating protein powder… Gold Standard Whey. This has been ranked the best in all aspects considered during this review so it is only fitting that this received the top spot. The second highest rated product on this list is Syntha-6. This is due to the combination of its incredible taste and exceptional mixing. Lastly, the lowest rated product of this review is that of the Cor-Performance Whey. I was very displeased with how this product stacked up next to the other two considered.

Very exceptional tasting protein. This is an option that has a lower percentage of protein by weight and subsequently a higher calorie content.
