#1 Jim Brown

Jim Brown was one of the most prolific who could be argued was before his time. From 1957 to 1965, he won one NFL Championship and three MVP's (Most Valuable Player). He led the league all eight years of his career in rushing yards and five of his eight years in rushing touchdowns. He was later enshrined into the NFL Hall of Fame.

#2 Walter Payton

From 1975 to 1987, Bears runningback Walter Payton hit the scene and made his mark. This one time MVP rushed for over 18,700 yards to rank as #2 in the history of the NFL. He's mixture of speed and cuts made him nearly impossible to stop on all levels.

#3 Gale Sayers

Coming in at 3rd on the list is Gale Sayers who played for the Chicago Bears from 1965-1977. Though he had an eleven season career, he sustained an injury which he never truly recovered from. Still, his mix of quickness and field vision was unmatched by opponents. He set the record for most rushing touchdowns in a game with 6 against the Baltimore Colts.

#5 LaDainian Tomlinson

"LT" was one of the best running backs of the 2000's. From 2001 to 2011, Tomlinson dominated the league, winning MVP once and leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns three times. He currently holds the record for most rushing touchdowns in a season with 28.

#6 Eric Dickerson

Eric Dickerson was a combination of speed and power than very few running backs in the NFL have ever possessed. In just four seasons with the Rams, he set the team record for most rushing yards which has yet to be beaten. He also holds the record for the most rushing yards in a season with 2105.

Standing at 5 foot 8 inches is arguably the most elusive running back in NFL history. Barry Sanders was known for his lightning quick agility, balance, and burst. He was a league MVP once, lead the league in rushing yards four times and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Tony Dorsett played for the Cowboys for 10 years and the Broncos for his last year. He is known as one of the most explosive running backs due to his speed and acceleration. He set the record for the longest rushing touchdown at 99 yards which is as far as possible to go. He is ninth of the list of rushing yards and a HOF inductee.

#10 Marshall Faulk

Faulk was an elusive back known for his excellent field vision. From 1994-2005, Faulk helped the Rams become contenders. He ranks 11th in rushing yards and 7th in rushing touchdowns. Faulk has been voted to multiple Pro-Bowls and the NFL Hall of Fame.

#11 Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson. All Day. Drafted in 2007, "AD" came on to the scene quickly. He has one of the best mixes of strength and finese as any one in league history. He set a single game rushing record for yards with 296 which is still unbeaten. He has been a three time rushing leader and will be a sure thing for Hall of Fame when he retires from the NFL.
